wat up with pvp and spears?
like almost close to every game, i see a person using spears but not even a paragon as primary or secondary? is there a reason why its so popular in pvp without being a paragon?

as the last guy said wars use spears from a distant to build up adrenaline..a lot of casters use spears on their shield set so they are not up in the front line and a lot of eles also use the spears specially if their sec is paragon for song of concentration in the matches

Spears often have more useful mods then wands. Most notable, they can have +5 energy all the time (when wands only give +5 eneryg over 50% health, or while enchanted, etc) and can also have +30 health (very important to have a lot of health in PvP to avoid spike damage deaths). They can also have +20% encahanting instead.
Pretty much all (good) casters use spears (or swords or axes which can have the same stats) with those stats in PvP. A lot of people use spears instead of swords or axes because then if you accidentally hit spacebar, you don't run up towards your opponent by accident. |

Longer enchantments cast, longer crippled duration when using return.

spears really shouldn't be used for longer enchant casts since you should have a staff set for that. Mainly they are used for health or armor bonus. Whatever your preference. Serious people run one of each.
Basically you need a shield set, and the spear is the best choice of weapon when you need to be in the shield set. Although swords are usually manlier on casters. |

I doubt a good pvper would use hale and hearty inscription. Wands are always used with an offhand as a 40/40 set.

But in all, some reasons for spears are - Martial weapon: Allows +30hp or +5 armor or +20% enchantment mods along with +5 energy. -Ranged weapon: when accidentally attacking something when targetting it as a caster you dont end up next to the target and out of range of your monks. Also, when its not accidental (f.ex. helping in barbs damage) it still has that benefit of keeping you at a save distance. In case of warriors it can help building up adrenaline without the need to rush into the enemy lines. -Single handed weapon : allows usage of a shield for +8-16 AL along with +30hp and condition reduction bonus or +AL against a damage type. Another reason is using an icon offhand. Martial weapon + icon offhand nets the same health as a +60hp/+5^50 staff with the added benefit of not having the ^50 requirement as well as netting 2 energy more (icon 12+martial 5 = 17, staff 10 + 5^50 = 15). |

I use it because of my habit. I tend to tab-space the opponent to atk, and if I was wearing a martial melee weapon, I would go straight into the heat of battle, which is stupid. and shield is for armor.

Fastest one-handed ranged weapon. Works well on casters that use defensive warrior stances.

If you wanted a weapon that you could attack fast with from a far distance, be one handed so you can have a sheild and have caster mods so you can still cast with it the answer is a spear so that's why people use it in PvP.
People sometimes use Axes and Swords since they're one handed, can have caster mods and also have good skins but have a downfall which is you can't attack from a distance. |

This really needs to be emphasized. So many players (I would even go as far as to say bad players) use their spear/sword/axe wrong when using a 20% enchant mod on a martial weapon. The only reason for using one would be a 55 build. Otherwise, you just wasted your time.

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet are the R/P Pack Hunters.
Bows are pretty pitiful in PvP outside of disruption (and spreading poison, but spears can as well), and these builds use Spears for a little more pressure than a bow can provide. Works well with their pets!

Off-topic but kind of the same: Also if you are a warrior you can use wands to help build adren as well. They have a longer range than a spear does and you can still hold a shield. I really only do it when playing hammer warrior and being stuck in flail and need to build adren on something out of spear range though.
Not to mention if you run shock axe you should carry a focus in your inventory for some bonus energy if you ever have to spam shock to slow a flagger to secure a boost. Just little tidbits about using weapons that don't really go with the class you chose. |

wands are not favourable because they have a slower attack cycle (1.75s), compared to spears' 1.50s.
also, wands and spears have the same range. wands do have a higher arc though. |

you can attack with a wand from the edge of the aggro bubble. The spear has to move in a few steps. That probably has something to do with the arc. It can be useful for pulling a knight or the rare situation I described where you are stuck in flail and you need some adren and the guy is just those few steps out of spear range. All in all it doesn't make a big difference and 98% of the time you should be using a spear because of the furious mod. but yea, carrying a wand for those rare situations never killed anyone.

Voltaic Spears look cool. Also it lets me as a monk or other caster to drain mana from distortion eles or trigger more barbs inbetween casts.
